A Dream Within a Dream

Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow-
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand-
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep- while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

This poem's pretty intense. I hope it's not mirroring your feelings but if it is, here's a big hug. Also, as Poe is standing on a beach feeling loss deeply, here's a more hopeful poem on a beach and one of my favourites.

It was mirroring my feelings at the time; though the big (hug) I received from you lifted my spirits a LOT. Thank you for the poem I found this piece particularly soothing...

Where the sea meets the moon-blanched land,
Listen! you hear the grating roar
Of pebbles which the waves draw back, and fling,
At their return, up the high strand,

It just one little piece of prose, but when I read it, it made me feel glad to be alive. (((hugs)))
